Foundation of Our Authority

The Kuna de Wargandí Tribe is an indigenous people legally recognized in the Republic of Panama, formally established by Law 34 of July 25, 2000. The Tribe holds economic, financial, and operational autonomy.

Its territory is located in the upper basin of the Chucunaque River, in the province of Darién, and is formed by three communities: Mortí, Nurra, and Wala, with Nurra as the capital. In Wargandí, families combine agriculture, crafts, the sale of molas, and other trades that support household income.

The Tribe is also known for its cultural celebrations, where ceremonial and traditional dances such as Nedule, Nadur, Guasir, and others play a central role in events like the chicha fuerte ceremony, one of the most important festivities for Kuna communities. These dances remain an integral part of the social and cultural life of Wargandí.

A Unique
Regulatory Alliance

Kunaisa is the first external entity to negotiate and formalize this type of agreement with the Kuna de Wargandí Tribe in the 25 years since its legal recognition. Our International Services Authority was created by tribal Order and Resolution, giving Kunaisa a distinctive legal basis to operate at a global level.

GOVERNANCE AND LEGALITY

Civic life in the Tribe is organized around its congresses and meeting house, where resolutions are debated and issued. Law 34 recognizes the General Congress as the highest traditional authority of Wargandí. Its decisions apply within the tribal territory and follow the Constitution and laws of Panama, with clearly defined authorities, powers, and procedures.

This legal foundation strengthens Panama’s reputation as a country that recognizes diversity and respects indigenous authority within its territory.
